Review Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusaders

Really enjoying those cherries

Jotaro Kujo locked himself in jail to avoid causing more trouble with the ghost haunting him. It turns out that the ghost is actually a power of his called a stand. The stand is caused by the resurrection of Dio Brando a century old vampire. Even though he can withstand the new power it will be eventually fatal to his mother, so begins an epic quest to defeat the evil Dio.

Those perverts are just animals

Jojo's bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusaders is a shonen action show. Even though this is the second season, watching the first season is not necessary to enjoy this show. This show is a very much a series of monster of the week episodes (although there are a lot of two episode long fights). There is a little humor on the side but this most definitely not a comedy.
Sometimes you just need to laugh

To put it simply this show is an exception to my belief in simply brainless action shows working as well as movies (for what I said read here ) primarily by being a string of monster of the week fights with little breathing space. The show works like catnip to a certain type of fan but unless you want supernatural fights and little else, Jojo's Bizzare Adventure has nothing to offer you.

Overall Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is sort of like Wolverine, it is the best at what it does even if the show is kind of a one trick pony.

Rating The silver over-sized sword (Berserk) for being a really neat brainless action show that is diverting as all get out.

Review Yuki Yuuna is a Hero

Pill Popping magic girls
Yuki Yuna is a middle school girl who is in a group called the Hero club with three other students. One day they learn that there is more to club than simple odd jobs, they are chosen to be warriors defending the sacred tree Shinju from invaders. However this is not the only secret there is to the world and the ones left uncovered can be terrible to behold once they are held up to the light.
Sadly Fu never realizes her dream of becoming a pirate

Yuki Yuna is a Hero is a magical girl show with several episodes of being a slice of life show. I found these segments not only blended together but complement each other. For example the plot points in episode four for example not only stand on their own but also reinforce a particularly dramatic scene in episode nine.
The average viewer by the end of the show.

While this show is something that will be instantly compared to Madoka Magica I do feel that this show does manage to be different enough that the show stands on it's own. It does have an interesting art style but it is more reminiscent of a mecha show from Bones than trying to copy Shaft. I also found the darker elements to be not only supported by the narrative but also something that doesn't look like it trying to copy other shows.

Overall I found Yuki Yuna is a Hero to be a good and interesting magical girl show which is a good watch for anybody even slightly interested in the genre.

Rating the Silver Kyubey (Madoka Magica) for being a really good dark magical girl show.

Winter Season overview part six Double Fafnir all the way across the sky

What does it mean? Not much except that two of the shows reviewed have Fafnir in the title. However none of them are particularly noteworthy shows of the even this winter season. For once the shows are all bad (or at least not all that good) in rather different ways.

Fafnir Unlimited

Some time ago dragons attacked and thus a few people called D have dragon powers and fight the dragons with magic powers.

This feels like the show is Infinite Stratos with dragons. This feels like another bad light novel show show that will probably be forgotten after it finishes.

Fafnir Exodus

In the future the world was overrun by aliens called Festum. One island is safe since it has hidden itself from the outside world. One day they drop their guard...

This is the second season to a rather a mecha show of middling quality. It's existence is something that I can not explain. I was disappointed by the lack of a strong character in the first episode.

Maria the Virgin Witch

Maria is a witch who lives in medieval France. She does her best to help people and stop war even though she is hated by the catholic church.

This show is the best of the bunch, as I found it entertaining and it had good characters. There isn't much bad about it (unless you consider the witch's general lack of clothing a problem)

Winter 2015 season overview part five Girls do stuff part 2

Like last time this group of shows I found this to be a rather good group of shows. I have a couple sequels to shows I already liked and there are there are two new shows. I would call them good enough to check out at least

Rolling Girls

There was a strange apocalypse but society reformed itself into various factions and the settle conflicts via one on one battles.

This show is a strange sort of action show with a strong visual style. I have a feeling that this show will be popular and it is something I recommend.

Durarara x2

It has been six months since the end of the gang battle at the end of last season. The city has not changed much since then but things are not going to stay that way.

If I were to make a top 10 list about 2010 Durarara would be on the top of that list. This first episode is mostly a catch up but it still feels like the same old show.

Aldonoah Zero

It has been nineteen months since the climatic battle at the end of the last season. The Vers have conquered most of earth but there are still resistance.

Anyone who liked this show will continue to like it into the second season. Everything is still there, the politics, the animation and Inaho taking out mechs far more powerful than his.

Gourmet Girl Graffiti

Ryou is a girl who loves to cook but finds out that truly food tastes better when you share it with someone else.

This is another slice of life shows but it doesn't fit the four girls do nothing sort of show. I think I can only recommend it to those that at least like slice of life shows.

Winter 2015 season overview part four Death, Death and more singing

In this particular group of shows I review a show that just about everyone was looking for, another one that is more obscure but is grim-dark and thus will be beloved by the western fan-base and this season's example of singing girls. To my delight all three of these shows have turned out to be at least somewhat interesting.

Assassination Classroom

Class 3-E is special in that they have been tasked with killing an extremely powerful octopus monster they have named Koro sensei, who has also the class's teacher.

Now this is a show that I have heard a lot of hype about and to be honest it is deserving of a fair amount of it. The premise is unique to say the least and you don't see characters like Koro sensei everyday.

Death Parade

In a certain bar they play games that draw out their innermost selves and decide their fate.

This looks like it could be a seriously good show but it is also something that is episodic so could easily hit or miss with them putting their best episode first.

Idolmaster Cinderella girls

A new season of Idolmaster with an entirely new set of girls who are to become idols in what is known as the Cinderella project.

I am not the biggest fan of the idol show anime but from the first episode they only introduce two girls so it is already better than Wake Up Girls in my book.

Winter 2015 season overview part 3 Hardware girls

My season preview grinds on and I think I have found a second possible passible show for me to watch although that passible is just. There are also a couple of generic and forgettable looking shows, just like litter just about every season. Then again when you try to watch everything you are bound to find days like this

Kantai collection (Kancolle)

The seas have become overrun with monsters called the phantom fleet. Only ship girls can fight them. Fubuki is the newest ship girl in the third torpedo squadron.

Kantai collection is a combination of slice of life with a very odd type of magical girl show. This is the best show of the group although that isn't saying much. It's a bit of a acquired taste but I found it to be somewhat entertaining.

Military

is a boy who's father has joined the military and a couple of small girls driving a tank come to defend him. Hijinks ensue.

This is a three and a half minute long show and probably good for nothing more than a possible laugh.

How to build a boring girlfriend

Aki a boy who is in a game making club with four beautiful girls.

I found this to be a rather standard harem/ fan service kind of show with a bunch of self referential talk about anime. It wasn't totally awful but at the same time I felt it wasn't much to talk about either.

Winter 2015 season overview part 2 Absolute Bear Apocalypse

With this part of the season overview I final get to one of the shows that I (just about everyone else) was planning on watching. While just like any other show it's only the first episode that show was just as good as I hoped it would be. I also review a couple of other shows that were definitely not as good and just standard examples of not well loved subgenres of anime.

Absolute Duo

Kokone Thor is a young man who has just enrolled at a school for people who can use blaze to manifest soul weapons. He is paired with a beautiful white haired girl.
This feels like it is just another generic light novel adaptation anime. While not all light novel adaptations are generic or mediocre I have a strong feeling that Absolute Duo is not the example one would use to make said case.

The testament of sister new devil

One day Basara's dad remarries and he now has two new stepsisters who are actually demons. He is also a hero with super powers.

I haven't actually seen High school Dxd but everything I saw in this show makes me feel like it is trying to be the next High School DxD. Expect a lot of fan service and some action to boot.

Yuri Kuma Arashi

A incident caused bears to become intelligent and vicious and that led to the construction of a wall between humans and bears. This is the story of two bears who have disguised themselves as humans the the girl they plan on eating.

This show is an early contender for best show of the season. It has crazy and imaginative direction and has a fun absurdist acting making it a fun and unique show that I recommend to any serious fan of anime.

winter 2015 season overview part 1 magical boys

Hello everyone welcome to another season and with every new season that I continue writing on this blog I am writing another series of articles with snap judgements of what I think of all the shows I have just seen. I was planning on covering other shows but oddities in expected licnses and the fact that I live in America (f word yeah) have said otherwise. However I have a couple of other shows to review this time so I hope you are still interested in reading on.

Magic Kaito 1412

Kaito Kuroba is young magic who loves to pull magic tricks. One day he learns about his father and decides to become a phantom thief in order to find out the entire truth of the matter.

While I am only judging this show by the first episode it felt like a pretty fast paced action show that had a pretty interesting hook. I thought the main character was decent and  I am not opposed to watching the rest of this, especially if this season turns out to be weak.

Cute High Earth Defense Club Love

Five High school boys are drafted into defending the Earth by a pink alien wombat.

This show is a clear parody of magical girl shows but this time with attractive males. This show is more of the kokori san or free category than a show that would scare me off but still as a heterosexual male this probably isn't my top of the list kind of show.

Review Gugure Kokori san

Doesn't everyone have a shoulder mounter little girl?

One night a lone girl named Kohina was playing Kokori san (a game a lot like an Ouji board) and actually summoned Kokori san the fox spirit. Kokori was surprised at the girl and how she said she was an emotionless doll who needed only cup noodles. Kokori san resolved to take care of Kohina but that is only the beginning of the supernatural hijinks that the two of them will share.
Excellent logic and fan service

Gugure Kokori san is a twelve episode long comedy first and just about anything else second. Like most pure comedy shows there is little to no plot except for whatever framework there is for the set of gags there are at the moment. There is also the reoccurring plot thread of Kohina coming out of her doll persona but (spoilers) nothing much comes of it.
Inugami the Yuri version

Although most of the main cast is attractive men I don't feel that the show is so slanted toward a female audience that anyone should avoid watching this show because of it, comedy comes first in this show. I found a couple of episodes to be weaker than the others but that is the case in most comedies.
You can always add more cute characters in school uniforms

Overall I found Gugure Kokori san to be a fun comedy for girls, boys, emotionless dolls and gender confused dog spirits.

Rating the bronze mesousa (pani poni dash) for being a comedy where anything can happen even if most of it has to deal with mythological Japan
