When
Shinji wakes up from his last battle he finds that it is not only
fourteen years later but that the world has been nearly destroyed by his
actions. There has been a split in nerv and many of
the people that used to work for the organization distrust Shinji and
place an explosive collar on him. Yet Shiji manages to escape his
dentition and make his way but what awaits him there?
Is there no one that doesn't look cool in an eye patch ? |
The
third film of the Rebuild of Evangelion series is a movie which roughly
covers the material that happened in episodes twenty through
twenty four of the television series. Even though
there continues to be mecha battles in this movie this movie is
drastically darker and more somber than the previous movie, in other
words don't watch this looking for a fun time. However if you are
willing to sit through something darker and more character focused this
may still be the movie for you.
Nerv, still there, sort off |
Although
I have heard that this movie wildly deviates from what is presented in
the television show and oddly enough I find these claims to be a bit
overstated. Given the closed nature of Evangelion in most of it's forms
the virtual destruction of the world is more of a detail than one would
normally think it would be. The biggest changes are to Asuka in that she
is
more stable and a lot more angry in
this retelling of Evangelion and the fact that the role of Kaoru in the
movie is more fleshed out in this movie.
Overall
I found this to be a bit of a downturn from the second movie although
not to the point that I wouldn't recommend it to a fan of the series.
Rating the Bronze Lain for being a decent intellectual movie even if it wasn't as fun as the last one
