Review Sengoku Basara

Too manly for one horse

The era of the warring states was a chaotic time when many great warlords fought over who would become the new ruler of Japan. Yet even this bloodshed pales in comparison to the depredations of the devil king Oda Nobunaga. Can the other warriors of the realm muster up the courage and power to overcome the monumental threat of Nobunaga?

Samurai snickt
Sengoku Basara is an anime show based on a video game of the same name. From what I gather the game was a 3D beat em up game with super powered versions of people from 16th century Japan fighting armies and each other and that translates well into the anime show. So this means this show is mostly an action series with any other genre being secondary at most.

With link not appearing in this show the forces of Hyrule were quickly routed
The characters in Sengoku Basara act in a generally exaggerated manner which could be slightly funny to some viewers. Personally I found most of the cast to be decent and somewhat interesting although not especially compelling. Think of this show as light entertainment and little of anything else. Needless to say using this show as a history primer is an easy way to get an F.

Overall Sengoku Basara a fun turn your brain off action show but don't go in expecting too much out of it.

Rating The bronze gunmen (Gurren Laggan) For being an average but crazy and over the top action show

Review Croisee in a Foreign Labyrinth

My name is Yune. Look upon my works ye mighty and know adorable.
Sometime in the late 19th century a small girl named Yune traveled all the way to Paris from her home in Japan. She came to live in a blacksmith shop in a shopping arcade with a young man named Claude and his grandfather Oscar. France is a very different country from Japan and Yune has a lot to learn in her new home. Just how will she adapt and learn from her experience?

much huggles upon you
Croisee in the Foreign Labyrinth is a twelve episode (plus one Oav episode) long slice of life show that doubles as a period piece. As slice of life shows go this show is far more of an Iyashikei (soothing feeling) show than an idle comedy show. There is also a fair amount of character drama but overall this show is mostly positive.

Yune fan girl number one
The story centers around Yune and does so to the point that the viewer's opinion of the show probably matches their opinion of Yune. Being that the show takes place in nineteenth century and this show takes good use of the scenery for the viewer's visual pleasure.

Paris is pretty in this show as well
Overall Croisee is good show if you are looking for something that is calming of the nerves but it is a show with a limited appeal to it.

rating the bronze teacup (K On) for being a decent slice of life show that revels in being cute.

Review World Conquest Zvezda Plot

Don't drop the show, you will make her mad
When Jimon Asuta decided to run away from home he quickly found out he had no place to turn to. That was until he happened upon a little girl named Kate Hoshimiya. Kate has plans to rule the world and as it turns out her plans are a lot more credible than anyone would expect. So Asuta finds his new
place in life as Dva one of the soldiers of Zvezda under the leadership of Venera, Kate’s alter ego.

After school special meets brutal crackdown
World conquest Zvezda Plot is a thirteen episode long show that mostly a rather zany comedy although it can be a bit more introspective at times. It comes across as a parody of the usual black and white morality action shows and when it is more thoughtful the show can be a rather insightful commentary. This show might feel somewhat random at points but all the loose ends tie themselves up in the end.

the tsundere minion
The characters in Zvezda plot are rather endearing and quirky and become rather well developed as the show progresses. There might be some concern about fan service given some of outfits some of the characters have, especially Kate's, but after watching the show I have found the show doesn't try to sell itself on sexual exploitation and there is little else to be concerned about.

A little girl fighting a giant robot
Overall I found World Conquest Zvezda Plot to be a quirky and somewhat unique show that has been kind of overlooked.

Rating the silver menchi (Excel Saga) for being such a wonderfully crazy show

Review Touka Gettan

There is the standard school festival episode

There is a land in Japan called Kamitsumihara where demons and gods are present. There are a few presences that keep the land in some sort of order and they incarnate throughout the centuries. There are two people who live in the Kamiazuma household who has some of those destinies. Their names are Touka and Momoka and Touka Gettan is the story of a year in the lives as they go to high school.

And the standard cross-dressing conversation between deities
If I were to explain Touka Gettan in one curious would be the world I would use. Not only is this show interweave a conspiracy of the supernatural and reincarnation into a slice of life show the pacing of this show is unique in that the episodes occur in reverse order with episode one occurring after episode two which occurs before episode three and so on and so forth.

And of course the standard catgirl licking someone's ass
The episodes are quite uneven as there are episodes with decent character development and then there are episodes that a bland slice of life stuff. There is an element of of fan service that appears in certain scenes and then sort of disappears that can be rather distracting when it does appear, as opposed to many echi shows which have a more steady level of sexiness. This show is rather chaotic in nature although it appears to be going in a definite direction at times.

Confused yet? Oh ho ho ho ho ho!
Overall In all honesty I cannot call Touka Gettan a really good show it is simply unique enough and has enough internal energy to it that I bring myself to hate the show.

Rating the bronze (Pani Poni Dash) for being a show where just about anything can happen.

Z/X Ignition files part three

So here we are with a belated and last edition of the anime files about Z/X Ignition. So what did I learn from this? Very little except for reaffirming my trepidation about watching anime shows based off of a card game (however even that lesson is lost on me as I am watching Wixross currently.)

You learn her name twice at the same time only to forget her after she leaves

Episode nine is focused on Ayase. You know how Ayase is an orphan that hates angels and is partners with Sieger? Much of the episode gives us her back-story in which we learn that Ayase is an orphan and hates angels and is partners with Sieger. That and a new character from the card game is introduced and then quickly dismissed with no real impact on the story.

Episode ten tells us that the people from the blue world (with the exception of Kazumi and Rigel) are huge jerks who want to tear Kazumi and Rigel apart. However this doesn't work and ends up with Rigel's replacement being destroyed.

Oh my god, look at the size of her ass
Episodes eleven and twelve focus around the fight with Audium, a giant Z/X who sucks girls into her and is murder on their midriff clothing. After the fight everyone goes their separate ways and the show ends.

Short review, this show is a tie in for a collectable card game and games without much of a story aren't fertile ground for good anime shows. I know there are exceptions to this statement but this show is not one of them. The plot to Z/X is rather meandering with little point to it and too many characters that are given too little time to be explored properly.

Sorry but no post saving me sex for you
Overall sometimes I think I am the only one that actually watched Z/X ignition. After watching it I think it should stay that way.

Rating the Tin Pikachu (Pokemon) for being a rather lackluster show made to work as a long toy commercial.

Review Wake up girls

Review Wake up Girls
My general reaction to the show

Green leaves are a down and out talent agency in Sendai who is looking for their next act. Idols seem to be popular at the time so they decide to form an idol group, called Wake Up Girls. Some girls show up and join the group including a girl who used to be a member of another idol group.  Can the group manage to become popular, even as popular as the top idol group of the day, the I1 club?

The bad guy in a show about singing girls
Anime shows based on idol groups are a somewhat new phenomenon in anime and Wake up Girls is the newest addition to this trend. Where this show tries to be different is that it sells itself as a deconstruction of the idol industry. While it manages to touch on this I feel it only does this in spots and for the most part it looks like a straightforward idol show just like any other.

Now I know why CG is usually used in scenes like this
As for how good of an idol show Wake up Girls is, the show is kind of a failure. For the most part the main group of girls is lacking personality and often feels like group is a gestalt entity rather than an enjoyable cast. The other characters are also either flat or have mustache twirling levels of villainy. I usually don’t notice animation quality that much but somehow this show managed to put out off model animation several times.

Stop praying you are so not getting a second season
Overall I felt that Wake up Girls is a failure at being a deconstruction of a genre and can’t even play the genre straightforward

Rating the tin idol because if there idol shows that are even somewhat popular they have to be better than this
