Summer watching part 1 Of Mice and Chiseled men

In my last post I told you about the various shows that I wanted to watch. Unfortunately none of the shows that I wanted to watch have started airing in the first days of the month. So what would you expect me to do, go outside and play (even if it has nothing to do with my shut in nerd cred it was really hot outside this week). So I decided to watch whatever was showing on Crunchyroll this week.

Dog and Scissors

Kazuhito Harumi is a huge book otaku who dies in a robbery and then is reincarnated as a dog. He ends up being owned by a sadistic woman who can read his thoughts and is also Kazuhito’s favorite author. From the looks of the opening and closing animation this show will somehow develop into a harem show (of human women of course). It isn’t a great show and isn’t a terrible show it is just something for fans of the romantic comedy featuring the most sadistic side of the tsundere phenomenon.

Free!

Haruka used to be a swimmer who truly loved swimming but only swam freestyle. He stopped competitive swimming but still loves water. Now in high school he still hangs out with his friends but has just learned that his old friend and rival Rin may have returned from Australia.
Free! Is everything I thought it would be and maybe a little bit more. Although it looks like it something of a sports show it is rather obvious that this show is mainly fan service for women. While I didn’t find this show to be utterly awful pretty clear that it isn’t a show for me. The animation is quite good and could be tolerated by a wider audience under the right circumstances.

Gifu Dodo
Naoe Kanetsugu and Maeda Keiji are two friends that live in the sengoku era and are great and manly warriors. They also have muscle necks bigger than their heads. It’s hard to say all that much about this show in terms of plot or characters as there isn’t too much in the first episode. The first episode contests of the two main characters supposedly being very manly with constant intrusions of auras, cherry blossoms and a bunch of odd philosophizing. It wouldn’t be so bad if it looked there was going to be an interesting story, but alas this show feels like it has all the substance of K on. Unless you are really into a show like this I would suggest
